Light Yagami is the protagonist in death note and is your somewhat perfect teenboy, he's a real life genius, very athletic, popular and every girls' crush. Despite all this Light is bored with his life when he comes across a Death Note on the ground, he ends up using this Death Note to punish criminals as he believes the Justice system is unworthy. It is a mystery to people how these crims are being killed, so they give the killer (Light) the name "Kira." Light's character becomes more and more devious, maybe Ryuk (the shinigami who owns the Death Note Light uses) influenced it. He gets so power-hungry that he decides to make the world refer to Kira as the new god. It's not all that simple for Light as he has world famous detective 'L' on the case, most of the time a step ahead of him.

L is the worlds' most famous detective, though L is just his cover he doesn't tell anyone his real name nor does he barely ever show his face. L is a rather odd and strange character but he is a natural born genius, when the Japanese task force organized to meet up with him they were utterly surprised by his appearance. He wears a white long sleeved top, blue denim jeans, no shoes, black longish spiky hair, he's skinny & walks with a hunchback. He is a huge sugar junkie, but never puts on weight as he claims that his thinking burns calories. When the Kira case started to cause issues L stepped in to help the Japanese task force and straight away L suspects Light and he never fully gives up on this theory & most of the time he was a step ahead Kira.

Misa Misa is a young famous model & singer who is deeply in love with Light Yagami (so deep in love with him that she doesn't care that he uses her). Misa has total admiration for Kira because he killed the murderer of her parents. Eventually Misa becomes the "2nd Kira" as a shinigami named Jealous gave up his life to extend hers, Rem (another shinigami) knew of this and passed the book onto Misa. Misa also ends up having Rem sacrifice his life for Misa aswell, so Misa's lifespan is rather long, but she does purchase shinigami eyes from Rem whilst he's alive and Ryuk, shortening her lifespan in half each time. Misa never gives up on Light and never confesses that he is Kira.
